Time is running out for you to claim £1,188

Earlier this month we were contacted by Gloria Keys, 70, from Bacup, Lancashire, who wanted to make people aware of a tax allowance that married couples can claim. Most married people are unaware that they can claim and could also get this money backdated.

“I didn’t realise that I could get money back for being married! It certainly made being married for 40 years look more appealing,” Gloria told us.

There are a number of requirements if you wish to claim:

  • You must be married or in a civil partnership
  • One person needs to be a non-taxpayer (earning £12,500 or less a year)
  • The other person needs to earn under £50,000
  • Both of you need to have been born on or after 6th April 1935

“When the cheque arrived, I remember telling Robert that we had got over £1,000! I joked and told him he now had no excuses for redecorating,” commented Gloria.

So, you’re probably wondering, how does this all work?

Well, Gloria was a stay-at-home mum, while Robert worked for a technology firm in the city. Due to Gloria not earning, she was paying no tax, while Robert was earning enough to place him in the lowest tax bracket.

Gloria told us that she could receive 10% of her tax allowance (how much money you earn before paying tax), with the only requirement being she had to transfer this to Robert. When she sent Robert the money, this increased his tax allowance by £1,250, with him then being able to get a cash payment of £250, which is the taxed amount he would have paid on the £1,250 from Gloria. Robert and Gloria also claimed back for the current year, as well as the previous four years.

“It all sounds so confusing, but really, Marriage Tax Claim made everything easy to understand and talked us through the whole process. They handled everything so I could still keep the house looking proper for when Robert gets home from work each day,” replied Gloria. If you could be eligible, contact Marriage Tax Claim TODAY!
